Discovering
Shiatsu
The word Shiatsu literally means “finger pressure”. Originating in Japan, this manual practice aims to support wellbeing and preserve the body’s overall balance.
By applying pressure and stimulation along the meridians used in traditional Japanese medicine, Shiatsu helps engage the parasympathetic nervous system, associated with relaxation, recovery and regeneration.
Alongside appropriate medical care, Shiatsu can help ease certain physical and emotional imbalances, and so contribute to a better quality of life.
Deep relaxation
A pause that helps the body step out of alert mode: fuller breathing, more restorative sleep.
Everyday tension
Neck, back, shoulders, nervous fatigue: working along the meridians attends to the areas that tighten up.
Always tailored
Every session begins with a personal assessment, so the treatment fits how you feel that day.
Fiorella Duarte,
Shiatsu practitioner
I have practised Shiatsu since 2006, with an approach built on listening, presence and adapting to each person’s needs.
My training began in Madrid, at the Amigos del Shiatsu school, a member of the Asociación de Profesionales del Shiatsu en España (APSE) and of the European Shiatsu Federation (ESF), with Charo Calleja and Luis Bonchalo: three years learning the foundations of the discipline, followed by a further year of practice required to obtain the certificate. Over the years I have continued to train in order to refine my work.
- 2006Began practising Shiatsu, after four years of training in Madrid.
- 2010 – 2012Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), at the Escuela Neijing, Madrid.
- 2012Maternity Shiatsu, with Suzanne Yates.
- 2025Extraordinary Vessels, with Suzanne Yates.
- 2026Shiatsu and support for people in oncology and chemotherapy, with Fanny Roque, a professional partner of the Ligue contre le cancer.
- 2026Training with Marion Dubes, physiotherapist specialising in breast health.
The Shiatsu I practise is a wellbeing and supportive practice. It does not replace medical care and is not a substitute for treatment.

Talking and assessment
We take the time to talk about how you are generally, where you hold tension and what you are hoping for. The session begins with a personal assessment.
- 02
The treatment
Shiatsu usually takes place on a futon on the floor. If lying on a futon is not possible, the session is given on a massage table.
- 03
Coming back
